Ski racing is a club sport here at Stanford, and our team has a well-earned reputation for fun. This past year, we had over 100 club members, with about 25 racers who regularly showed up for training and races. Our girls team has qualified for nationals the last two years, and Stanford has snagged the boys individual spot the last two years.
We compete at the NCAA Division II level, and our races are all sanctioned by the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA). The USCSA is a casual but strong league that includes 158 colleges from around the country. The big bear of our league, aside from Cal, is Sierra Nevada College, a group of sub 30-point Europeans who regularly win the National Championship.
What is more, unlike many collegiate race programs, we get to race and ski in Tahoe. When it rains at Stanford, the team gets excited, because it means powder at Squaw and Alpine on Friday.
